'Hand-made,
100 per cent organic music' is how guitarist Branco Stoysin refers to the
contents of this, his trio's sixth album, and there is indeed a freshness
and wholesomeness about the seven Stoysin originals, solo-bass excursion
and Jobim tune ('Triste') that make it up.
Backed by his usual rhythm section, bassist Leslee Booth and percussionist Buster Birch, Stoysin showcases one of the most delicate and thoughtful guitar sounds in the music on such graceful, instantly memorable tunes as 'Where's the Pen', the gently protean 'Inexhaustible', the lightly swinging 'Till You Come' and the Balkan-tinged 'Changing Times'.
The album's two solo features, Stoysin's own 'Soul and Bird' and Booth's 'Soon It Will Be Today' are equally accomplished, though both players are notably lacking in flash, instead using their considerable techniques to produce music characterised by subtlety and grace rather than showiness. Quietly joyous, thoroughly unpretentious and unfussily virtuosic music, this comes warmly recommended, like Stoysin's previous albums.
