The
words ‘powerhouse boogie-woogie’ pretty well sum it up. It’s
a driving, energetic sound, to put it mildly, and you would have to be
in a pretty dismal mood not to get carried away with it.
Ben Waters has the kind of two-handed technique that sets piano keys flying in all directions. He also has a fresh approach to an idiom which has become quite stylised in its long history.
The band, which includes Chris Lonergan on bass, Sam Kelly on drums and saxophonist Derek Nash, proves up to the challenge. If boogie comes, can Jools be far behind? Of course not – Mr Holland makes a guest appearance on one track."
