Loz Speyer

Time Zone

33Jazz

Album description

Trumpeter and composer Loz Speyer is fast becoming known as a powerful and original new voice on the contemporary scene.

Time Zone came together at the beginning of 2003 and this album follows his debut CD `Two Kinds of Blue' also on 33 Records. The music is high-energy jazz straight from the heart - a fresh and individual take on the jazz tradition, bebop and beyond - drawing on sounds and rhythms from a broad spectrum of music.

Speyer's compositions are strongly melodic and atmospheric - some pieces representing a new kind of Jazz/Cuban fusion following Loz's recent extended periods in working in Cuba absorbing sounds and gigging with local musicians. The band also plays compositions by guitarist Richard Bolton and selected standards by Monk, Coltrane, Gershwin and others.

Personnel: Loz Speyer - (trumpet/flugelhorn), Martin Hathaway - (alto sax/bass clarinet), Richard Bolton - (guitar), Phil Donkin - (double bass), Simon Pearson - (drums), Carlos Lopez Real - (alto/soprano sax).
