Julian Siegel Quartet ‘VISTA’ – ALBUM LAUNCH (1st night of 2 )

“A UK-jazz supergroup, this band sets the bar pretty high for the art of making idiomatic, ecletic contemporary jazz” – John Fordham, Guardian Over the last 20 years, Julian has built a reputation as one of the UK’s finest jazz musicians. A gifted saxophonist and clarinettist, Julian has worked with many of jazz’s leading lights including; Mike Gibbs, John Taylor and Norma Winstone alongside co-leading the award-winning Partisans with guitarist Phil Robson. With the Julian Siegel Quartet, Julian has chosen to work with three distinctive voices on the UK jazz scene, including pianist Liam Noble whose fluid touch and dazzling imagination perfectly complements Siegel’s playing. Adding the creative spark of drummer Gene Calderazzo and the deep groove of bassist Oli Hayhurst creates one of the UK’s most exciting and powerful quartets.

Following up from their London Jazz Award winning album ‘Urban Theme Park’ (Basho) the band release their third Album ‘VISTA’ on Whirlwind Recordings on 2/2/18. Recorded at Livingston Studios, London it features ten of Julian’s compositions plus an arrangement of Bud Powell’s ‘Un Poco Loco’. This new acoustic set of music moves freely through varied sound worlds and colours, from undercurrents of bop to searching ballads and joyful melodies.

The music the band plays moves freely through varied soundworlds and colours, from undercurrents of bop into electro-acoustic trance, from an acoustic quartet playing early-electric Miles to dancing West African drum grooves, searching ballads and joyful melodies.
