The trio’s distinctive sound draws inspiration from the jazz tradition and combines with it a contemporary approach to improvisation. They perform Mike’s original compositions, the melody of each forming a basis from which the music evolves, allowing the group to sculpt each piece into a unique work. The three members of the group had played together in varying combinations for a number of years but 2014 marked the debut of this new trio formation.
Their debut CD Vuelta, described by Peter Bacon as ‘(a) beautifully thought-out, performed and recorded album’, was launched in January 2015 on Stoney Lane Records.
For tonight’s gig they are joined by Spanish trumpeter Julian Sanchez.
