To mark the birthday of Thelonious Monk, we present a selection of his music performed to celebrate one of the great jazz composers.
Monk’s music remains some of the most one of the most unique and idiosyncratic in the jazz repertoire. His style is instantly recognisable and his compositions continue to delight and challenge audiences more than 80 years after he was first hired as the house pianist at Minton’s in 1940 and helped to usher in a revolution in modern music.
Expect some well known favourites and a few less commonly played tunes as we spend an evening getting into the spirit of Monk.
