PIGFOOT PLAY TOMBOLA

Chris Batchelor – Trumpet
Liam Noble – Piano
James Allsopp – Baritone Sax
Paul Clarvis – Drums

Pigfoot established themselves as radical interpreters of classic New Orleans jazz with their acclaimed 2014 recording ‘21st Century Acid Trad’. At their ongoing ‘Pigfoot Play’ residency at the Vortex they have been extending their repertoire in all directions, with gigs dedicated to Opera, Motown and Elvis. Tonight they will invite the audience to choose the repertoire from the hat, so Wagner will be rubbing shoulders with Bessie Smith, Lieber & Stoller, Smokey Robinson, Richard Strauss, Stevie Wonder, Fats Waller and Puccini, all spontaneously transformed by the band’s wild musicality and wry humour.

“Chris Batchelor , Liam Noble, Oren Marshall and Paul Clarvis delivered 90 minutes of concentrated joie de vivre as Pigfoot in the packed Guildhall. Their alchemical skills are apparently boundless: peaking by transmuting Mozart into Abdullah Ibrahim.”
Jon Turney; Jazzwise, Brecon Jazz Festival 2015
