About

Pianist Rob Barron studied Jazz at the Leeds College of Music and after leaving with a BA Hons degree in Jazz studies and the College Award for Outstanding Performance, he moved to London where he gained a Masters in Music Performance at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Since then he has gained the reputation as a first call sideman, highly regarded for his improvisational flair, imaginative arranging ability, innate musicality and a deft touch, revealing influences inspired by Hank Jones, Cedar Walton, Barry Harris, Wynton Kelly and Sonny Clark.

Rob has performed with some of the biggest names in American jazz music such as Phil Woods, Al Jarreau, Benny Golson, Grant Stewart, Patti Austin, Marlena Shaw and John Marshall, toured with vocalist Stacey Kent and saxophonist Dave O’ Higgins and appeared on over 30 album recordings to date.

Featured on many film soundtracks, most prominently Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby and also more recently The King Of Thieves, Rob has also recorded with The BBC Big Band, The BBC Concert Orchestra, Jamie Cullum, Claire Martin, Liane Carroll and Rachel Portman.

Rob has led his own trio since 2012 with drummer Josh Morrison and bassist Jeremy Brown. Performing regularly at Ronnie Scott’s jazz club, they have performed opposite The Louis Hayes Quartet, The Kenny Barron Trio and Cecile McLorin Salvant.

Their first album ‘What’s In Store’, released in spring of 2016 was featured in Peter Vacher’s top 10 top ten straight ahead albums of the year in Jazzwise magazine.

The band’s follow-up album ‘From This Moment On’ was released in late 2020 on Ubuntu Music and has received numerous five-star reviews in the press, including from BBC Music Magazine and over 3 million streams on Spotify.

Tonight the trio will feature material from albums as well as brand new compositions and arrangements composed during lockdown!
