The Forty Thieves Orkestar turned out to be the perfect festival attraction drawing a large (and voluble) audience with their infectious mix of Balkan rhythms and slurpy street beats (produced by a laptop).
Violin and clarinet solos snaked out over subtle percussion and a delicate oud completed the mix; in appearance they might resemble a raffish cross between Madness and the Pogues, but their stage presentation is winningly informal and their music effervescent and irresistible.
