March 2007 gig reviews by Chris Parker

Robert Mitchell

Thursday 29 March

'Florid imagination and subtle power' delivered with 'breathtaking dexterity and charming wit' was promised from Robert Mitchell's solo piano gig and that's what he delivered in spades, entrancing what Ronnie Scott would have referred to as a 'select' audience – though Mitchell himself referred to the gig as 'severely intimate' – with a virtuosic display of dazzling but controlled artistry.

Exhilarating but musicianly, faultlessly paced but engagingly informal in its presentation, this was an hour of world-class piano playing.
