Mopomoso: A night of free improvisation.
Kay Grant (voice), Daniel Thompson (guitar), Benedict Taylor (viola), Alex Ward (clarinet)
The excellent guitarist Thompson joins three musicians from this yearʼs Mopomoso tour in a quartet led by Kay Grant. Displaying an instant rapport of quick witted interplay and delicate shadings as an integral part of the music this is a group that gets to the heart of free improvisation. Music made in the moment for the moment.
Yoko Miura (piano), Charlie Collins (percussion)
A sense of space and elegant poise are key features in the musical world of Yoko Miura. Impressionistic glimpses, like half remembered phrases sometimes left to hang in the air, take the listener to a sound world full of space and natural beauty. Here from Japan she is joined by the sensitive percussion work of Charlie Collins in a debut duo performance.
FURT Richard Barrett and Paul Obermayer (electronics) plus guest John Russell (electric guitar)
Formed in 1986 FURTʼs dense and intricate musical forms are produced at every level by an interpenetration between free improvisation and systematic composition, using concrete (sampled/processed) materials. The duo is concerned with allying the physicality and expressivity of sound-structures to their vision and also with deriving methods of musical production from the nature of the electronic medium itself. Joined here at the duoʼs request for a rare appearance by John Russell on electric guitar.
