For parents and babies/toddlers (0-5s)
This joy-filled class offers the opportunity for parents to sing, dance and shake along to songs from around the world and original tunes.
Directed by Scott Stroman, the London Jazz Orchestra is "as fine a band as you can find anywhere" (Independent) and these up-close-and-personal sessions showcase great writing and soloing from a band that includes many of London's top musicians, as well as new talents.
Rom Schaerer Eberle
Andreas Schaerer (voice), Martin Eberle (trumpet), Peter Rom (guitar)
A first time for this group at the Vortex, we're very excited to present one of the most unusual and inventive vocalists around.
This is an unique trio, something of an anomaly in the world of jazz: voice, guitar and trumpet. But the compositions of these three musicians are full of wit and imagination - swing, African music, blues and hip-hop can be identified but their instrumentation gives them a sound of their own. It is a furious co-operation: Schaerer is a vocalist of the first degree and a highly energetic performer, Eberle and Rom are his congenial companions, at times lyrical and virtuosic and at times percussive and explosive.
Tom Rogerson plays keyboards in Three Trapped Tigers and also performs solo mostly concentrating on free improvisation at the piano. He currently hosts a monthly night called Proof Positive which focuses on electronic improvisation.
