Also sometimes referred to as 'Real Simple Syndication', RSS is a new and increasingly popular way to subscribe to news and information from the web, either through a browser such as Firefox, or a dedicated desk-top software feed-reader (known also as an 'aggregator').
Many websites and weblogs offer feeds. When you subscribe to an RSS feed the software automatically updates the feeds with the latest posting from the 'publisher.'
There are stand-alone feed-reader software programmes for both Mac and PCs. Most are free - though some, more highly-featured versions, are not.
There are also web-based services such as offered by Yahoo which can incorporate RSS feeds into a Yahoo personal page. Google and MSN also offer reader browsers.
Some of the newer web browsers such as Firefox and Safari also have integrated RSS reading capability.
Whichever method you chose, you have to 'subscribe' to an RSS feed. Your feeds will be updated automatically and displayed in the reader.
