John Law, Sam Burgess, Asaf Sirkis

Art of Sound tour 2006

John Law piano/composition
Sam Burgess
double bass
Asaf Sirkis
drums

In February 2006 John Law's new trio played together (for only the second time), recording two hour's worth of music at the wonderful Italian studio of Artesuono - used by many major European labels, including ECM.

The CD name and tour title naturally followed: The Art Of Sound.

The trio's aim is to become one of the UK's foremost listening groups: listening to each other, to the sound that we produce, individually and collectively, and to the acoustics of the environment we are playing in.

"John Law is a hidden treasure of the UK jazz scene."
(The Guardian)

The music the trio plays (compositions by John Law) is characterised by a sense of poise and balance; an attempt to play just the right amount of notes and placed in just the right point in time.

Balance, poise and a sense of beauty, in our sound and in the compositions themselves, along with a tremendous drive and energy: these are what the group is trying to achieve.

Instrumental virtuosity is a necessary tool to achieve this aim, not an aim in itself. This is the first London date for this new trio.

John Law's trio plays at the Vortex on Monday 6th November 2006

The concert and the tour are supported by jazz Services.
