Vocals@Vortex

Guest singers who have performed at Vocals@Vortex reads like a who's who of UK jazz – Christine Tobin, Tina May, Estelle Kokot, Freddie King, Anton Browne, Anita wardell – and many more.

The Open Mic set is hosted by Romy Summers and The Bob Stuckey Trio. This wonderful trio drive this great night and offer a marvellous support for all the performers. Singers are asked to bring along three copies of their chord charts in their key.

The Angela Carrington Awards

The Vocals@Vortex night also hosts the annual Angela Carrington Awards ceremony. The award recognises the talent and diversity of singers taking part in jazz open mic events in the greater London area.

Jazz singer, clarinettist and actress Anglea Carrington took her own life in 2005 while suffering from clinical depression and the gig raises funds on behalf of mental health charities helping those with bi-polar disorder.

In May 2007 the evening featured Jacqui Dankworth, Estelle Kokot, Daniel Shaw, Ian Shaw and the Steve Lodder Trio and the Award was presented to Jo Doolan & Tony Fairfax.
