Things you might want to know
about The Vortex

 

When is The Vortex open?

The Vortex is open in the evenings - unless you have made arrangements to hire the club.

Doors open at 8.00pm
Doors close at 12 midnight approx. (except for special events)

When does the music start?

Performances start around 8.45pm unless shown otherwise in the programme.

There are usually two sets of 45 minutes each with a break between.

Do I need to book?

It is advisable to check ticket availability particularly for Friday and Saturday nights. Phone 020 7254 4097 for reservation enquiries.

Phone booking cancellations

Please note that 48 hours notice is required for phone booking cancellations.

How do I buy tickets online?

There are links to each event on the programme page. The link will transfer you to the We Got Tickets external website which offers a secure credit card facility.

Do you do food?

Ochre Works – a new bar/bistro will be opening at the end of April 2008.

Please note that food can no longer be taken into the performance area of the club.

The Ochre Works – a new bistro and bar – will be opening at the end of April.

Downstairs from The Vortex, the bar will offer a menu of delicious, simple, modern dishes and a range of wines and beers.

Is there a licensed bar?

Yes – we offer a range of wines, spirits, bottled beers and soft drinks.

How do we get there?

Is there parking space?

There is parking on the north side of Gillett Square. Access is via Boleyn Road. Please note there is no vehicle access to the Square from Kingsland High Street.

Is there disabled access?

There is a disabled toilet on the ground floor accessible from the restaurant area downstairs. There is a disabled lift up to the performance area.

Is there air-conditioning?

Yes.

Is the club available for hire?

Yes - see the hire page for more details.

Do you have to be a member to come to the club?

No. Entry to gigs is open to anyone. However there are benefits for 'friends' – see the friends page for further details.

What kind of music is there?

There is a wide variety on offer – 'straight-ahead' jazz, bebop, modern, vocal, piano trio, big bands, jazz/rock, folk and world music free improvisation, avant-garde and 'experimental' music.

Is there a lower age limit?

No – however normal licensing laws apply to the sale of alcoholic drinks.

Are there any jobs available at the Vortex?

Sorry no – but if you would like to get involved with the club we are always in need of volunteers to help with day-to-day tasks.
