SUMMARY:Grasscut + Eyes Of A Blue Dog + MooV
DESCRIPTION:Part of the EFG London Jazz Festival\n\nSonorous: Three bands working at the edges of musical genres come together for a night of boundary-pushing\, sonorous experimentation.\n\nSigned to Ninja Tunes\, Grasscut make sounds that "..keep your ears refreshed and alive" Tom Robinson\, BBC 6 Music. Eyes of a Blue Dog mine elements from underground electro-pop song\, post-rock and an austere electronica of the kind that has roots in the experimental jazz and improvisation scene. MooV inhabit the space between jazz\, classical and folk\, "Something extraordinarily strange and beautiful." (BBC Radio 1).\n\nGrasscut\n\nGrasscut are Andrew Phillips (music\, words\, production\, vocals\, keyboards\, guitar) and Marcus O'Dair (keyboards\, double bass).\n\n"Music that isn't quite like anything you've ever heard before. Music that's constantly trying to push the boundaries but at the same time stay accessible... It just keeps your ears refreshed and alive" Tom Robinson\, BBC 6 Music.\n\nEyes of a Blue Dog\n\nEyes of a Blue Dog is a refreshing new collaboration between the LOOP Collective trumpeter Rory Simmons (also on electric guitar and electronic treatments)\, renowned Norwegian drummer and ambient electronics soundscaper Terje Evensen\, and upcoming UK-based singer-lyricist Elisabeth Nygård. Together they mine elements from underground electro-pop song\, post-rock and an austere electronica of the kind that has roots in the experimental jazz and improvisation scene.\n\nMooV\n\nMooV inhabit the space between jazz\, classical and folk. "Something extraordinarily strange and beautiful." (BBC Radio 1). Tonight they play material from recent album 'Here'.\n\n"Criminally underexposed" (Jazz UK)\n\n"Riley is that rarest of birds\, a genuine original\, and his music is sui generis\, but consistently haunting and often beautiful" (London Jazz Blog)\n\n"Rasping blues folksong inflections … icy-breath intimacy … real warmth and passion … " (Jazzwise)

SUMMARY:Alexander Hawkins Curates: Alex Ward plus Kit Downes and Lucy Railton
DESCRIPTION:Pianist & composer Alexander Hawkins curates three late night sessions at the Vortex - catch them after the evening concerts. Known as an extraordinary improviser Hawkins plays with musicians from Evan Parker to Mulatu Astatke to Marshall Allen\, as well as leading his own acclaimed Ensemble and trio.\n\n \n\nALEX WARD\nAlex Ward originally came to prominence as an improvising clarinetist when he played at Derek Bailey's Company week in London back in 1988. But since 1997 he has also enjoyed a rising profile as a guitarist in ensembles including rock band Camp Blackfoot\, the poppish instrumental group Pocket and improvising trio NEW (with Steve Noble on drums and John Edwards on bass).\n\nKIT DOWNES & LUCY RAILTON\nDiving into the space between the organised and the disorganised\, Kit Downes & Lucy Railton's duo - Tricko Tareco draws inspiration from the lyricism and big-beat of minimalist composers\, the ballads from nearby ice-cream vans and a light-footed approach to improvisation. Kit Downes (piano\, organ and compositions) is joined by Lucy Railton (cello)\, forming a pairing that is alive and carefree but is always patient and sensitive. All the rest of Tricko Tareco is Alex Killpartrick (the Third Man)\, who is behind the dreamy and warped electro-acoustic trickery that shadows and follows. Tricko Tareco enjoys simple things put in weird ways - they released their first EP on Impossible Ark Records in January 2013.\n\n
