DESCRIPTION:Firefly Burning\n\nFirefly Burning are an East London collective born out of a series of chance musical encounters. Bea Hankey\, John Barber\, Sam Glazer\, James Redwood and Jack Ross create songs which paint sound pictures with Javanese gamalan\, guitar\, strings\, piano\, gongs and voices.\n\nEclectically embracing Sufjan Stevens' wonky unadulterated pop and the post-minimalism of John Adams\, Firefly Burning's music is full of close harmonies\, intricate rhythms and evocative atmospheres. In debut album 'Lightships' shades of Debussy and William Byrd vie with eastern textures to capture their hypnotic live performances.\n\nTonight the group play music from their brand new album\, due out in 2014.\n\n"..urgent dancing piano lines and frantic strings over which Bea Hankey sings with majestic\, hypnotic grace" Time Out\n\n"..the music is so utterly hypnotic...firefly are intoxicating\, beautiful and affirming" Matchbox Magazine\n\nQuest Ensemble\n\nBringing a unique take to the classical piano trio\, this contemporary London based ensemble\, Filipe Sousa\, (piano)\, Tara Franks (cello)\, and Preetha Narayanan (violin)\, collaboratively create original work with a distinctive sound that blends improvisation with devised composition.\n\nWith intriguing traces of Vaughn Williams\, Steve Reich\, and Esbjörn Svensson Trio\, Quest Ensemble paint a unique and evocative musical landscape filled with lyrical melodic lines\, rich harmonies\, and interwoven rhythmic counterpoint.\n\nThe trio also work collaboratively on site-specific installations and sound commissions for dance and visual arts. They have just finished recording their first album to be released in March.
