SUMMARY:Let Spin + Partikel
DESCRIPTION:Let Spin return to the Vortex to celebrate the release of their debut album.\n\nLet Spin\n\nLet Spin were formed in a rather fortuitous fashion in June 2012 when another band had to pull out of a short run of gigs. This eclectic group\, a collaboration between four of the UK’s top genre-crossing instrumentalists\, was brought together - the only requirement was that each musician was asked to contribute written material. The chemistry was instant. A collective understanding\, immediate. Right from the first performance\, a strong identity was forged\, evident in the band's explosive groove-based free improv.\n\nThrough each musician’s varied style of writing\, influences as far-reaching as Rage Against The Machine\, Tim Berne\, Bill Frisell and Middle Eastern folk music collide to form a cohesive mix of angular riffs\, wistful melodies\, euphoric improv and heavy grooves.\n\nTwo months after Let Spin’s first gig\, they were in the studio recording their eponymous debut album\, which will be released on Beats & Pieces Big Band leader Ben Cottrell’s Manchester-based label Efpi.\n\nMoss Freed – Guitar\nChris Williams – Alto Sax\nRuth Goller – Bass\nFinlay Panter – Drums\n\n"Modern\, hectic and…gleefully bizarre…[they] had the audience spellbound." London Jazz\n\nPARTIKEL\n\nPartikel are three London based musicians all with very different musical backgrounds who have come together to make music mixing all of their favourite influences in a melodic coherent and accurate way. The music puts an interesting twist on the standard jazz format while still honoring the tradition of deep harmony and creative improvisation. Drawing influence from African and Latin American music combined with the style of the contemporary jazz scene\, Partikel produce a personal\, committed and contemporary take on the saxophone trio.\n\nDuncan Eagles - tenor sax\nMax Luthert - double bass\nEric Ford - drums and percussion\n\n"Cohesion is a masterclass in the art of the trio\, with music that is articulate and eloquent" Jazz UK
