SUMMARY:Trio Riot + Wolf Suit
DESCRIPTION:Trio Riot\n\nMette Rasmussen – alto saxophone\nSam Andreae – tenor saxophone\nDavid Meier – drums\n\nTrio Riot formed in Helsinki in 2009\, since then they have performed across Europe including dates in Finland\, Sweden\, Denmark\, Norway and England. Stylistically\, the band relate their sense of energy to the 1980s British punk scene\, their approach to sound is inspired by Ornette Coleman and other free jazz pioneers and in their compositional style the group draws inspiration from 20th century contemporary music.\n\nWith pure performance energy they manage to pull these disparate influences together into a compact and hard hitting musical concept. Their last five tours were in the UK where they played for a full house at The Forge as part of the London Jazz Festival (Nov 2011) and for which they received highly positive reviews. In January 2012 they joined the established UK free-jazz band gaNNEts on a double tour where\, among other dates\, they played Band on the Wall in Manchester and to a full house at The Vortex in London. 2013 saw especially well received performances at the Manchester Jazz festival and Jez Nelson's Jazz in the Round. The band are releasing their debut album with Efpi Records in early 2014.\n\n"These two sax players together are a formidable combination" Jazzpace Blog (2011 London Jazz Festival performance)\n\n"in the formula one of Europe's young improvisers" Bebop Spoken Here (2012)\n\n"as punk as they come" Chris Payne - Go See This (2013)\n\nWolf Suit\n\nWolf Suit is Olie Brice (bass)\, James Allsopp (reeds) and Tim Giles (drums).\n\nThis new trio play a riotous brand of free improv\, with great empathy and intuition.\n\nOlie Brice\n\nOlie Brice plays double bass in a wide range of jazz and improv groups\, as well as leading and composing for his own Quartet (with Mark Hanslip\, Leon Michener and Jeff Williams) and The Carracks Project (with James Allsopp\, Nick Malcolm\, Alex Bonney and Mark Sanders). He has performed with Paul Dunmall\, Ingrid Laubrock\, Ken Vandermark and Louis Moholo-Moholo\, among many others.\n\n"Brice makes the entire body of his bass sing. He has the ability to deliver a fractal line that is as purposeful as any by the great jazz bassists\, but to do so within an entirely abstract setting" – Brian Morton\, Point of Departure\n\nJames Allsopp\n\nJames Allsopp is a multi-instrumentalist and composer\, he first came to public attention leading a band called "Fraud" which made an album shortlisted for the 2007 BBC Jazz Award for best record\, brought him some critical acclaim\, the 2008 BBC Jazz Award for Innovation\, and the Ronnie Scott Award for Best New Act.\n\nTim Giles\n\nTim Giles is a jazz drummer who won the Daily Telegraph Young Composer of the Year Award in 1992 at the age of 12 and has gone on to perform with a variety of jazz musicians. Giles was a member of Richard Fairhurst's Hungry Ants\, and later formed his own group\, Fraud\, with James Allsopp. Fraud won the Jazz on 3 Innovation Award at the 2008 BBC Jazz Awards.
