DESCRIPTION:Kit Downes & Lucy Railton's Tricko Tareco\n\nHaving met playing with composer Thomas Strønen\, UK pianist Kit Downes and Norwegian bassist Ole Morten Vågan are touring their two ensembles together in the UK and Norway. Tonight's show will feature one set from each\, plus some collaboration.\n\nDiving into the space between the organised and the disorganised\, Tricko Tareco draws inspiration from the lyricism and big-beat of minimalist composers\, the ballads from nearby ice-cream vans and a light-footed approach to improvisation. Kit Downes (piano\, organ and compositions) is joined by Lucy Railton (cello)\, forming a pairing that is alive and carefree but is always patient and sensitive. All the rest of Tricko Tareco is Alex Killpartrick (the Third Man)\, who is behind the dreamy and warped electro-acoustic trickery that shadows and follows. Tricko Tareco enjoys simple things put in weird ways - they released their first EP on Impossible Ark Records in January 2013.\n\nMOTIF\n\nA decade into their tenure\, Norwegian Ensemble MOTIF is still polishing the personal sound they have been meticulously shaping since the beginning\, a sound labeled as “a remarkable combination of powerful writing\, simpatico free play\, and stylistic cross-pollination” (John Kelman\, Allaboutjazz\, on 2008´s “Apo Calypso”).\n\nThe musicians unite from the very core of the Norwegian scene\, from bands such as Bugge Wesseltoft’s NCOJ\, Atomic\, Free Fall\, Christian Wallumrød Ensemble and Trondheim Jazzorchestra\, and are all key players in the young European improvising scene.\n\nIn 2010\, they released their 4th CD\, the box set "Facienda"\, to rave reviews. Their two last outings\, 2008'́s Apo Calypso\, and 2010' ́s three CD box set “Facienda”\, have both been released on Bugge Wesseltofts ́s JAZZLANDrec\, to great reviews. MOTIF has also appeared on a variety of festivals all over the world – the Copenhagen Jazz festival\, Bremen Jazz Ahead\, Hanoi European Jazz festival\, Kongsberg Jazz Festival\, Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival\, Vancouver Jazz Festival\, Moldejazz and countless clubs all over Europe. They have also toured in Asia\, visiting China\, Japan (where they ́ve played the renowned Pit Inn club in Tokyo) and Vietnam.
