DESCRIPTION:Hafla: an Arabic word\, meaning a friendly social gathering\, a relaxed meeting of minds\, over coffee and dates; a party; a concert.\n\nYazz Ahmed warmly invites you to spend an afternoon with her extended musical family\, as she combines her electric quintet and vibraphone quartet for the very first time.\n\nFeaturing:\nGeorge Crowley\, bass clarinet/sax\nLewis Wright\, vibraphone\nNaadia Sheriff\, keyboards\nDudley Phillips\, bass guitar\nMartin France\, drums\nCorrina Silvester\, percussion\nand Yazz Ahmed on trumpet/flugelhorn\n\nThe band will perform original compositions exploring the music of Yasmeen's Arabic heritage. Hypnotic Middle Eastern riffs\, infectious belly-dancing rhythms and haunting melodies\, fused with jazz and free improvisation\, will create a constant flow\, an organic arc to the performance\, transporting the listener on an evocative inner journey.

DESCRIPTION:Mopomoso presents an evening featuring four established duos from the ﬁnest in free improvisation\n\nPhil Minton / John Russell\n\nChris Burn / Matt Hutchinson\n\nSQ: Paul Pignon /Thomas Bjelkeborn\n\nJim Dvorak / Harrison Smith\n\nPhil Minton (voice) / John Russell (guitar) duo\n\nPhil Minton is deservedly acclaimed around the world for his remarkable use of the voice\, an instrument he continues to develop after a lifetime in music spent\n\nworking with many of the leaders in the ﬁeld of free improvisation and experimental music. He has worked both here and abroad in a duo with renowned\n\nguitarist Russell for a number of years now and they always create an air of eager expectation whenever they appear.\n\nChris Burn (trumpets) / Matt Hutchinson (piano) duo\n\nLong established partenership making a welcome return after last yearʼs promotional visit for their CD ʻUntuning the Skyʼ. Two ﬁne musicians with a\n\nwealth of shared experience theirs is a music of intellegence and poise that repays close listening.\n\nJim Dvorak (trumpet) / Harrison Smith (saxophone) duo\n\nTrumpeter Jim Dvorak started with ʻBrotherhood of Breathʼ\, ʻJoyʼ\, and bands led by Elton Dean\, Keith Tippett and Louis Moholo. ʻDreamtimeʼ with Nick Evans\, was followed by his own groups ʻDhyanaʼ\, ʻSun Sumʼ ʻBardo State Orchestraʼ and ʻ Alakazamʼ. When ʻDistrict Sixʼ was formed\, it cemented his long standing and unique musical association with Harrison Smith which continues to this day. Harrison Smith has performed and recorded with Chris McGregor\, Louis\nMoholo\, Harry Becket\, Kenny Wheeler\, Eddie Prevost\, Danny Thompson\, the Free Jazz Quartet with Paul Rutherford and Prevost and recently toured with\nthe American pianist Marilyn Crispell. He performs with his own Quartet\, the London Improvisers Orchestra\, the Dill Katz Quartet and a quartet with Ian\nSmith. He has had a long and diverse musical association with Jim Dvorak including District Six\, Al-aka-zam\, Dhyana\, as well as numerous improvised\nmusic gigs over a 40 year period.\n\nSQ - Paul Pignon (single reeds and electronics) / Thomas Bjelkeborn (electronics) duo\n\nPaul Pignon has been playing and composing music of almost every kind for nearly 60 years and is a pioneer in Electro Acoustic Music\, having co -\n\nfounded the Radio Belgrade Electronic Music Studio in 1968 and\, while working for EMS\, was the instigator of the EMS Synthi 100. Since his ﬁrst\n\nforays into free improvisation\, in 1962 Oxford\, improvisation has remained a core part of his work. Thomas Bjelkeborn is a sound artist\, electronic musician and acousmatic composer. Also a curator for the PUSH festival and Club Lamour in Gävle and Stockholm he has performed at many electroacoustic and electronic music festivals around the world.\n\nWe gratefully acknowledge ﬁnancial assistance from The Swedish Arts Council towards this appearance.\n\nwww.mopomoso.com\n\n
