SUMMARY:Pull Up The Roots present Erin McKeown + Ruth Theodore
DESCRIPTION:SOMETHING'S GOT TO GIVE:\nA night of jazz & vaudeville standards from ERIN MCKEOWN\n\nA singular night of cover songs featuring Erin's trademark stellar jazz guitar work and unadorned vocal style\, it's standards with all the fun and without all the fuss. songs from Judy Garland\, Fred Astaire\, Frank Loesser\, Nat King Cole\, Anita O'Day\, Blossom Dearie and more.\n\n"In several distinctive ways - voice\, dynamic subtlety\, and sheer songwriting ability - Erin McKeown is in a class of her own." - Sunday Times (UK)\n\n"Her operative mood is effortless grace" - LA Weekly\n\n"Her playing is so muscular\, her arrangements so well conceived that she succeeds brilliantly. As with all truly great guitarists\, the wonder is less in her chops than her choices" - Boston Globe\n\nPlus support from Ruth Theodore\n\nPrincipally a Violinist\, Ruth taught herself guitar as a busker on the streets of Southampton. Claiming to still barely know the names of the strings\, her guitar playing and use of unconventional techniques and unique tunings has dumbfounded guitarists ever since.\n\nIn 2012 and back on the guitar Ruth opened for grammy award winning american folk singer Ani DiFranco for two sold out shows at the Union Chapel\, London. Ruth performed those shows without her two front teeth! In June 2013 the release of the much anticipated ‘Dear Lamp Love Moth’ was delayed as Ruth was rushed in for emergency open surgery. Whilst recovering Ruth stated she wanted to start from scratch with the recording\, finally releasing the record in June 2013. ‘Dear Lamp Love Moth’ received further high praise from The Guardian\, Mojo magazine and other national press and radio.\n\nIn September 2013 Ruth began writing again and assembling the barber-shop blues musicians that now accompany her latest material. Having realised the methods previously used to record her music as being too sterile Ruth is in the midst of a live music venture. Recording is taking place on a converted river boat on the East London waterways. This new collection displays more energy than we’ve seen from Ruth in a while as she tears around the guitar with a brass slide. Currently performing and recording\, this material is expected for release summer 2014.\n\n
