SUMMARY:Chaos Collective present Glasshopper + Laura Jurd and Corrie Dick
DESCRIPTION:Laura Jurd and Corrie Dick\nThese two extremely exciting young musicians present 'trumpet and drums' as they transcend into a world of primal creativity\, exploring their roots and mankind's historic fascination with music.\n\nLAURA JURD is a London based trumpet player\, composer and improviser. A diverse musician\, she plays and writes a wide variety of music\, drawing upon classical\, jazz and folk influences. An active member of the UK jazz and improvisation scene Laura's ensembles have performed at some of the country's most prestigious venues as well as performing in many UK festivals. She released her critically acclaimed debut album 'Landing Ground' in November 2012 and has since performed the music around the UK.\n\n'Jurd stretched critics and musicians' repertoire of superlatives with this sophisticated and technically awesome session. **** ' John Fordham\, The Guardian\n\n“CORRIE DICK is one of the most gifted drummers I’ve come across in recent years; he’s well on his way to being a visionary both as a musician and composer. With such vibrance and flair there is no doubt in my mind that he will soon assert himself as one of the finest contemporary percussionists on the UK scene.” New York Saxophonist Will Vinson\n\nGlasshopper\nJonathan Chung - Tenor Saxophone\nJames Kitchman - Guitar\nCorrie Dick - Drums\n\nCelebrating the release of it’s debut EP\, Glasshopper is a new instrumental trio led by expressively melodic saxophonist Jonathan Chung. The band performs Jonathan’s emotionally-sophisticated compositions with reverence and abandon\, intricately weaving from moments of sonic bliss to euphoric rock outs. Ever with improvisation at the heart of the performance\, the band is unified in it’s aim to reveal the story of each piece within the listeners imagination; each time with fresh twists.\n\nThe Chaos Collective\n\nSomething of a ‘secret weapon’ on the European music scene\, the Chaos Collective is already making waves in London and the UK\, consisting of some of London’s most high-calibre\, creative young performers including Laura Jurd\, Elliot Galvin & Alex Roth.\n\nWith a passion for new music this hard hitting\, cross-genre big band is reminiscent of the eighties powerhouse ‘Loose Tubes’\, whilst developing a truly unique\, ever-evolving identity of its own.\n\n“Hugely original and exciting ensemble\, rich in orchestration and bold improvisational concepts\, this group is sure to be the future of British Jazz.” – Mark Lockheart (saxophonist/composer)
