SUMMARY:Bruno Heinen and Kristian Borring: 'Postcard to Bill'
DESCRIPTION:Over two nights (the first having taken place on March 10th)\, critically acclaimed pianist Bruno Heinen and guitarist Kristian Borring will be recording their duo album live at the Vortex.\n\nThe project is centered around compositions of the great pianist Bill Evans\, arranged by the duo and taking inspiration from Evans' famous duo recordings with guitarist Jim Hall. This is a rare opportunity to be a part of a live recording\, with the album set to be released on the forward looking Babel Label later this year.\n\nBruno Heinen\n\nBruno Heinen is a London based contemporary pianist\, composer and bandleader. His recent endeavours include collaborations with Julian Siegel\, Martin Speake\, Byron Wallen and Christian Brewer. Bruno studied classical piano at the Royal College of music with the then head of keyboard Andrew Ball and then went on to win prizes from the Musicians Benevolent Fund and the Countess of Munster Trust to take his Jazz masters at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied under John Taylor. Bruno was asked to stay on at the Guildhall as a Junior Fellow where he completed a Masters of Musical Performance. Bruno now teaches Jazz harmony to the classical piano students at the Guildhall every year as well as leading small bands made up of Jazz Undergraduates.\n\n"Heinen sounds like the kind of erudite and curious new arrival destined to make a real difference." John Fordham – The Guardian\n\nKristian Borring\n\nDanish born Kristian Borring has built his name as a skillful guitarist with great melodic sense and sophisticated harmonic understanding\, equally mastering the standard repertoire as well as original material. Kristian is currently working on his second album\, set to be released during early 2014. The recording is meant as a personal homage to the experience of the life in a metropolis and will released on Yellymould. It features an outstanding lineup of some of the UK’s most exciting jazz musicians: Jim Hart (vib)\, Arthur Lea (pno)\, Mick Coady (bs) and Jon Scott (dr). The band toured in late 2012 before recording and packed out the Hoxton venue\, Charlie Wright's\, for their appearance at the London Jazz Festival.\n\n"A guitarist of enormous technical ability who utilizes his considerable gifts thoughtfully and tastefully" Ian Mann\, The Jazz Mann

SUMMARY:Hyperactive Kid + Kit Downes & Lucy Railton's Tricko Tareco + Starlight
DESCRIPTION:A night of intrepid new music from Berlin and London.\n\nHYPERACTIVE KID\n\nPhilipp Gropper - tenor saxophone / soprano saxophone\n\nRonny Graupe - 7 string electric guitar\n\nChristian Lillinger - drums\n\nHYPERACTIVE KID is a band made up of three musicians currently living in Berlin. They came together in 2003 and since then they have been working on developing their collective musical ideas. Most importantly\, their focus is to find the sound of the pulsating breath of life together – their interplay reminds us of the energy and continuous flow of ideas coming from a hyperactive child. Three musicians – ONE work of art. Everyone is everything and together they are HYPERACTIVE KID. The band are currently working on new songs.\n\nSTARLIGHT\n\nWanja Slavin - Alto\n\nPetter Eldh - Bass\n\nChristian Lillinger - Drums\n\nThis trio believes in the idea that the world can become increasingly better in terms of science\, technology\, modernization\, liberty\, democracy and quality of music. All you really need to do is to celebrate progressivity in all aspects of life. The three individuals of this group bring together compositions and strong ideas that they link into a seamless whole. The band started because the three members really wanted to play together and they simply got together out of that impulse and immediately created a platform where nothing was taboo. "We want to mess with people's heads and give the jazz mainstream an alternative" - Lillinger. With the big vocabulary of this trio anything is possible. Lillinger is playing rhythms of endlessly evolving complexity and depth. Slavin is moving freely through different dimensions and layers. Eldh is an iceberg with an amazing ability to connect harmony and rhythm. This band will get rawer and looser from every time you hear them.\n\nTRICKO TARECO\n\nDiving into the space between the organised and the disorganised\, Tricko Tareco draws inspiration from the lyricism and big-beat of minimalist composers\, the ballads from nearby ice-cream vans and a light-footed approach to improvisation. Kit Downes (piano\, organ and compositions) is joined by Lucy Railton (cello)\, forming a pairing that is alive and carefree but is always patient and sensitive. All the rest of Tricko Tareco is Alex Killpartrick (the Third Man)\, who is behind the dreamy and warped electro-acoustic trickery that shadows and follows. Tricko Tareco enjoys simple things put in weird ways - they released their first EP on Impossible Ark Records in January 2013.
