SUMMARY:Myra Melford with Ben Goldberg\, Chris Batchelor\, Steve Watts\, Tim Giles+ Liam Noble solo piano album launch
DESCRIPTION:The second night of Liam Noble's solo residency\, where he plays in a double bill with a quintet involving the iconoclastic Myra Melford.Tonight will feature the free improv side of Liam's playing.\n\nPianist Melford can be rhythmic\, romantic\, stoic\, wry\, and lusty but most of all daring — all in one tune. The quintet tonight will include Ben Goldberg\, Chris Batchelor\, Steve Watts and Tim Giles. There will be music by Myra\, Ben and Chris. (It will also be recorded by BBC Radio 3.)\nMore importantly she‘s reconnected music to motion\, leaving today‘s straight laced young men in suits\, who have dominated recent jazz\, in her wake.\n— Stuart Nicholson\,The London Observer\n\nClarinetist Ben Goldberg has been a staple of San Francisco's improvisational-music scene\never since he helped put together the well-received New Klezmer Trio two decades ago. Chris Batchelor is known for too much good work\, from Loose Tubes through his work with Steve Buckley to his amazing mentoring skills as a teacher. He originally hooked up with Myra for the exciting Big Air project. Steve Watts - our bass scene is only where it is today thanks to Steve. Tim Giles has been a professional drummer since his father had to chaperone him to play at Ronnie Scott's/\n\nThis concert will be recorded for future broadcast by BBC Jazz on 3.\n\n \n\n
