DESCRIPTION:Blow the Fuse continues their celebrated TOMORROW THE MOON IV season at the Vortex - double bills featuring some of the UK’s finest\, original contemporary jazz all led by women. One small step for woman…\n\nFamily Band is a chordless quartet dedicated to a love of improvisation and loose structures. Influenced by the music of Ornette Coleman\, Paul Motian\, Peter Evans and John Coltrane amongst others\, the band are not afraid to stretch themselves and take risks. This is music created to make you feel.\nThe band is co-led by trumpeter Kim Macari and double bassist Tom Riviere\, though the music is very much a collective effort.\nThey have recently been announced as one of 10 flagship ensembles supported by Jazz North's Northern Line scheme.\n\nFamily Band’s debut album is one of my favourite new releases of 2015...it combines authenticity with great energy and spontaneity - Jez Matthews\, The Lescar\nKim Macari Trumpet • Tom Riviere Double Bass • Riley Stone-Lonergan Tenor sax • Steve Hanley Drums\nEmily Remembered are a jazz guitar duo that celebrates the life and work of American jazz guitarist Emily Remler who died in 1990 at the age of 32. They perform swinging jazz standards\, bossa nova\, Remler originals and some original compositions.\n\nDeirdre Cartwright  Guitar • Kathy Dyson Guitar\nDeirdre Cartwright rose to fame on BBC TV’s Rockschool. The two series attracted audiences of 2 million viewers every week in the UK and were subsequently shown worldwide. In the U.S.A. the programmes were introduced by Herbie Hancock.\nShe was also a member of one of the most successful of the British jazz groups of the 80s\, the internationally acclaimed womens jazz group the Guest Stars with whom she recorded three albums and toured in 17 countries.\nIn 1991 Deirdre formed her own group. The Deirdre Cartwright Group has played extensively in the UK on tours supported by Jazz Services and the Arts Council and has released five albums.\nAs a solo artist she has played with American guitar legend Tal Farlow\, toured with Jamaican composer Marjorie Whylie\, and has played throughout Europe. She has her own radio show for Jazz London radio 'Curious Adventure'.\nKathy Dyson is a jazz guitarist\, composer\, researcher and educator based in Manchester. She first studied at Leeds College of Music in the early 80’s\, co-founded Leeds Jazz\,\nthen set off on a five year tour of Europe with her husband John and daughter Ruth.\nShe was Senior Lecturer in Jazz at Leeds College of Music for several years and won Jazz Educator of the Year at the 2010 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.\nCurrently she runs the Northern School of Jazz from Blueprint Studios in Salford\n\nThe duo’s first album Emily Remembered was released in February 2011 with a double launch at Band on the Wall Manchester and Ronnie Scotts Club London\nREVIEWS\n"Cartwright and Dyson exchange murmuring lines on Softly after a theme of gleaming harmonics\, and push each other more insistently in the later stages of a live All the Things You Are.\nCartwright's lilting bossa Hello World and the earthy\, clanging blues catch the ear\, but it's the free-flowing\, improvised 8 on 12 and a brooding and then reharmonised Afro Blue\nthat avoid the more routine aspects of traditional standard-song jazz jamming."  John Fordham\, Guardian\n\n"Kathy Dyson and Deirdre Cartwright are both superb players albeit with contrasting styles that\, nevertheless\, complement each other perfectly.
