DESCRIPTION:A triple bill of the quintet of Matthew Sulzmann\, one of our fine up-and-coming saxophonists\, the quartet of Billy Marrows and a special visit by Michiel Braam\, one of Holland's leading pianists\, who will be playing solo (and taking advantage of our wonderful Steinway).\n\n \n\n\nBilly Marrows’ guitar led quartet features in demand young musicians Rupert Cox (piano)\, Joe Downard (bass) and Ben Brown (drums). Their music is firmly rooted in jazz and groove\, with eclectic influences including Weather Report\, Kneebody and Wayne Krantz. Combining emotive melodies and harmonies with deep but quirky grooves\, Billy's writing has been described as 'fresh and unpredictable’ by Jazzwise magazine where he was listed as one to watch in 2017.\nBilly Marrows is currently a student at the Royal Academy of Music and in 2016 he won the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition was awarded the Lancaster Youth Jazz Commission for which he wrote a suite drawing upon ideas from Gamelan music. This was premiered by his octet at Lancaster Jazz Festival.
