SUMMARY:The Quartet (with Jack Hues\, Mark Holub\, Liran Donin) + Raph Clarkson's Dissolute Society
DESCRIPTION:The latest project from Jack Hues and The Quartet\, COLLABORATIONS\, is a series of new recordings which began with the release of "A Thesis on The Ballad" in 2015. The remaining volumes in this series ("ROTE-Thru" and "Nobody's Fault But My Own") will be released and toured in October 2017.\n“ROTE-thru” began as a commission from the Sounds New Festival in Canterbury. The brief was to create a piece combining words and music with poets Simon Smith and David Herd. Jack’s long history as a songwriter reaches its furthest extreme as influences from Ornette Coleman\, Luciano Berio and the Canterbury scene of the 1960’s collide in an electrifying mix of free jazz and spoken word.\n“Nobody’s Fault But My Own”\, a song by Beck from his album “Mutations”\, was developed with world-renowned Canterbury Rock band Syd Arthur at Canterbury’s legendary Orange Street Music Club. Live performances led to this recording made deep in the Canterbury countryside. Both bands - 2 drummers\, 2 bass players\, guitars\, keyboards and featuring Paul Booth on saxophone - an awe inspiring noise!\nReviews’ for their work have described it as “an intriguing\, moody\, sonic journey” (Mojo); “Infectious and bursting with ideas” – Album Of The Week\, The Independent; “Thematic cohesiveness and cinematic eloquence” Guardian; “The-Quartet are perpetuating the Canterbury scene in fine style.” BBC Online.\n\nhttps://youtu.be/5BvPMxHwD4Q\nThe Dissolute Society Trio feat. Gboyega Odubanjo\n \nGboyega Odubanjo - spoken word\nRaph Clarkson - spoken word\, trombone\, electronics\nPhil Merriman - keys\nSimon Roth -drums\n\nFollowing the release of The Dissolute Society's debut album Soldiering On (Babel Label) to critical acclaim\, the trio brings a fiery mix of freely improvised grooves\, poetry\, rap\, noise\, and contemporary jazz to the Vortex. Gboyega Odubanjo joins Raph Clarkson in sharing personal stories of grief\, love\, injustice and protest via the spoken word.\n\n"wild...fearless...thrilling" - birdistheworm blog\n\n"Raph Clarkson is one of the rising stars of the U.K. improv scene"  - bandcamp.com\n\nWebsite: https://www.raphclarkson.com/music/the-dissolute-society/\n\nHear the album: https://babel-label.bandcamp.com/album/soldiering-on\n\n\nSoldiering On - Album Stories - Raph Clarkson's Dissolute Society from Big Heart Media on Vimeo.
