SUMMARY:MOPOMOSO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
DESCRIPTION:Come and join the celebrations as Mopomoso - the UK's longest running regular improv sessions. As regulars will know\, this is the occasion when it seems that all the improvising musicians within range converge for an afternoon of impromptu collaborations in cameo performances of 5 - 10 minutes each.  We cannot give a list of participants as this gets added to right up to the day\,  but previous years have seen up to 70 musicians involved.  Expect to see many of the Mopomoso stalwarts as well as new faces from John Russell's Workshops\, and to hear as wide a range of improvising styles.\nWe hope to see all you improv fans come along to join in the celebrations.\nMusicians wishing to perform should contact John Russell via the Mopomoso website.\n\n

SUMMARY:Alexander Dubovoy\, Huw V Williams\, Jay Davis
DESCRIPTION:A musical celebration of American pianist Alexander Dubovoy’s past year in London\, featuring some of the London jazz scene’s most sensitive improvisers.\n\nAlexander Dubovoy: Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area\, Alexander Dubovoy is a pianist\, singer\, and composer. He graduated from Yale University in New Haven\, Connecticut in May 2016\, where he wrote an award-winning thesis on the history of jazz in the Soviet Union. In university\, founded a successful student initiative to start a jazz program and built connections to New Haven’s thriving creative music scene. After graduating\, he moved to New York City\, playing venues such as the Cornelia St. Cafe and soaking up the sounds of the Downtown music scene. His first solo album Portraits Drawn Without You was released in the summer of 2016 and was recorded by 11-time Grammy-winning recording engineer Jack Renner. In January 2017\, Dubovoy relocated to London\, where he has continued his musical exploration. He is particularly interested in the connections between musical improvisation and social change. He is a regular at the Vortex\, as a volunteer and bar tender.\n\nHuw V Williams: Huw V Williams was born in Bangor North Wales. In 2008\, Williams began his studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama\, where he forged a musical partnership with pianist/composer Huw Warren. Williams delved deeper in the modern jazz sound world\, from British jazz of the 70s and 80s to Downtown New York improv as well as the wide musical pallet of world music. In the spring of 2013\, Williams moved to North London\, there he explored his musical history to inform his current sonic language. Combining the rock music which influenced his teens and the modern jazz of his early 20s; Williams has been composing for a variety of his own projects as well as performing as a side man. He released the critically acclaimed album HON in February 2016.\n\nJay Davis: As a drummer and composer\, Jay has been presented with several awards including a Yamaha Jazz Scholarship\, John Scheerer Prize for Drum kit and the Sir Elton John Prize to name just a few. Educated at Leeds college of Music and the Royal Academy of Music\, he has performed all over the world in a wide variety of settings. Jay has had his own compositions featured on BBC radio and has also recorded music for television. Jay currently resides in London and is busy performing throughout the UK and Europe. In 2017\, he released the acclaimed album Pond with the band Big Bad Wolf.
