SUMMARY:MOPOMOSO : The Afternoon Sessions
DESCRIPTION:Line Up:\nViv Corringham / Mia Zabelka\n\n+\n\nLawrence Casserley / Alison Blunt / Hannah\n\nMarshall\n+\n\nMaggie Nicols / John Black\n\n+\n\nEmmanuelle Pellegrini / John Russell\n\nViv Corringham / Mia Zabelka duo\nViv Corringham (vocals) makes a welcome return to the Mopomoso stage\, this time in the company of another of our ‘out of town regulars’ Austrian violinist / vocalist Mia Zabelka. Delighted to have them back in what will be their debut performance as a duo.\n\n \n\nAlison Blunt / Lawrence Casserley / Hannah Marshall trio\nA fine trio put together by leading electronic music practitioner Casserley and featuring two of the UK’s leading string players in Blunt on violin and Marshall on cello. A sonic bath for the ears!\n\n \n\nMaggie Nicols / John Black duo\n\nVocalist Maggie Nicols needs no introduction. She has been at the heart of free-improvisation since the 1960s and is as vital today as ever. Many performers cite her as a nurturing influence on their art.\n\nJohn Black (guitar) is an arch-improviser and musical journeyman who has been active in free-improvisation for many years\, alongside his work in sacred and Spanish music traditions\n\n \n\nEmmanmuelle Pellegrini / John Russell duo\nE. Pellegrini (poetry\, action\, improvisation)\nEmmanuelle Pellegrini's performances are more or less poetic but for sure quite loud. She crosses the road of many improvisers\, dancers\, video artists or poets as well as visual artists. Her poetic work is mainly influenced by the sound poet Bernard Heidsieck. On stage she practices a form of improvised poetry\, guided by listening and memories. Performed body is also important in her work focused on orality. She has made two crucial encounters : one with the french choreographer Emilie Borgo and the other with the italian percussionist Elisabeth Flunger with whom she has developed a number of different projects. More recently she has worked with Lee Patterson\, Xavier Saïki or Fred Marty and has also played with Jean-Philippe Gross\, Xavier Charles\, Thomas Charmetant\, Isabelle Duthoit… In the East of France she curates Densités\, International Festival of improvised music and performing arts.\n\nGuitarist John Russell has been organising and playing concerts of freely improvised music since the early 1970s. He founded Mopomoso in 1991 and co-directs the Weekertoft label with Dublin based pianist Paul G Smyth. As well as being a member of a number of established groups he runs a developmental project Quaqua and this June will be visiting professor at The Musashino Art University in Tokyo\, where he will lecture and run workshops on the subject of free improvisation.\n\n \n\n \n\nwww.mopomoso.com

SUMMARY:Craig Taborn - Solo
DESCRIPTION:Composer/Pianist/Electronic Musican Craig Taborn was born and raised in Golden Valley\, Minnesota.  While Studying at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor\, Craig had the good fortune to play in the illustrious Detroit jazz community performing and studying with such luminaries as Marcus Belgrave\, Harold Mckinney\, Francisco Mora\, Rodney Whitaker\, and Kenny Cox.\n\nHe has played and recorded with Roscoe Mitchell\, Wadada Leo Smith\, Tim Berne\, Steve Coleman\, Lester Bowie\, Evan Parker\, Bill Laswell\, David Torn\, Mat Maneri\, James Carter\, Marty Ehrlich\, Chris Potter\, Leroy Jenkins\, Joe Maneri\, Susie Ibarra\, Carl Craig\,  Bill Frisell\, Drew Gress\, David Binney\, Dave Douglas\, Lotte Anker\, Gerald Cleaver\, Adam Rogers\, Hugh Ragin\, Meat Beat Manifesto\, Rudresh Manhattappa\, Graham Haynes\, and Rob Brown among others.\n\nIn the last few years\, however\, solo piano performance has become a priority for Craig Taborn. “If the areas of improvisation that I deal with are always ‘compositional’ in a certain sense\, in this case a very focussed compositional approach is applied\, rather than allowing a broader exploration to yield a result. Throughout this recording I’m honing in on specific details. The music is really improvised: I just start. But having started\, I try to relate everything that happens\, like the motivic or rhythmic and textural detail\, to the initial ideas as closely as I can."\n\nHe is currently a member of Chris Potter’s Underground\, Roscoe Mitchell’s Note Factory and Quintet\, Tim Berne’s Hard Cell and Science Friction ensembles\, Drew Gress’ 7 Black Butterflies\, Gerald Cleaver’s Uncle June\, Farmer's by Nature with William Parker and Cleaver\, Anker/Taborn/Cleaver\, David Binney’s Welcome to Life band and Quartet\, and Susie Ibarra’s trio.\n\nHe was voted Best New jazz Talent in 2004 by Musica Jazz (Italy) and hailed as the "#1 rising Star Keyboardist" in the 55th and 56th Downbeat Critics poll.\n\n \n\n
