DESCRIPTION:\nSupported by the Dave Holland Evan Parker Fund\nFirst set 8:30 pm - 9: 30pm (Olly Chalk Trio)\n\nSecond set 9:45 pm - 11:00 pm (Matt Sulzmann Quintet)\n\n\n \nLine Up\n\nOlly Chalk - piano\nSam Ingvorsen - bass\nGwilym Jones - drums\n\n\n\nThe Olly Chalk Trio walks the high-wire between total freedom and detailed writing\, juggling intricate\, daring and emotive compositions with explosive improvising. Olly’s writing draws from 20th Century Classical and traditional Japanese music and often make connections to poetry and spoken word.\n\n \n\nAfter winning the Peter Whittingham Development Award in January 2018\, the trio were joined in the studio by New York saxophonist John O’Gallagher following a UK tour. With a strong influence taken from the British jazz music in which he grew up\, Matthew's writing features sweeping lyrical melodies grounded against lush harmony\, with room for extended improvisations from the musicians. Members of the quintet are the recipients of several awards (Dankworth Prize 2015\, 2017\, WCOM Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2017)\, and have already been sought after by veterans of the scene including Jasper Hoiby\, Gareth Lockrane\, and James Allsopp.\n\n \n\n[embed]https://youtu.be/dW5lCiB9COk[/embed]
