SUMMARY:Bedmakers + Alcyona Mick + Smith/Calvert/Nicholls
DESCRIPTION:An evening bringing together many familiar faces to the Vortex in a kaleidoscope of musical directions.\n\nBEDMAKERS\n\nRobin Fincker - tenor saxophone\nMathieu Werchowsky - violin\nDave Kane - double bass\nFabien Duscombs - drums\n\nBedmakers combines the lyrical flights of traditional Irish folk music\,\nilluminated blues and the richness of free improvisation.\n\nThe Franco-British quartet storms the meanders of Anglo-Saxon folk music.\nThe four unclassifiable improvisers dig\, scratch and rumble this fertile\nsonic ground\, nourished by multiple decades of oral tradition in order to\nexcavate its melodic essence. These tunes that one hums without realising\,\nthat feel familiar without being able to point their source\, find themselves\nout of their original context\, superposed or extended\, declaimed or only\nsuggested\, sometimes buried under a storm of concrete-noise music or\ndistilled in a minimalist blow.\n\nPut together in 2016 by anglophile saxophonist Robin Fincker (Vincent\nCourtois\, Loop Collective\, Whahay)\, Bedmakers reunites four musicians from\npolymorphic and singular musical universes with French drummer Fabien\nDuscombs\, violinist with electroacoustic drifts Mathieu Werchowsky and Irish\nbassist Dave Kane. The group has performed over 70 concerts all over Europe\,\nexpanding their repertoire in an inexhaustible reservoir: a mix of collected\nand original compositions. The quartet seeks to evoke the feeling of letting\ngo\, the trance\, the collective jubilation on a dance floor by a greatly\ndynamic musical experience. A backwash of noise gestures\, ceaseless loops of\nthe bow\, heady melodies of the saxophone and the quartet’s new rhythm\nsection's polymorphic sound converge towards a common goal of invisible\ndance and molecular shock.\n\nTheir European tour in May 2019 takes them from Moscow to Edinburgh\, through\nEstonia\, Finland\, France and England.\n\nVideo links:\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ect2ue1U7GY\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra2EaZCjInM\n\nALCYONA MICK - piano\n\n\nAlcyona started playing piano at the age of three.
