SUMMARY:The Shape of Jazz To Come presents: Barnacles - Horns\, Drums Heaviness
DESCRIPTION:Leroy Horns - Tenor Sax\nRichard Halligan - Tenor Sax\nLaura Impallomeni - Trombone\nGreg Sinclair - Baritone Sax\nPeter Adam Hill - Drums\n \n“.....fathoms ahead and far more alluring than the usual brass band fare.” - Dom Servini (Wah Wah 45s)\nThis five-piece UK Jazz band\, consisting of just horn section and drums\, combine the energy and intensity of dance music with the spontaneity and freedom of a live group. Having no chordal instrument\, results in a no safety net\, nowhere to hide\, raw and untempered ride.\nCollective improvisation and arrangement ideas of Charles Mingus\, the time games and rounds of Moon Dog\, are combined with a modern heavy and dirty sentiment soaked up at squat parties and reggae sound system by band leader Leroy Horns.\nHighlights for the band include recent collaboration with Tribe// dance company\, gigs at The Jazz Cafe and Jazz:Refreshed in London\, and the Love Supreme Festival and the Power UP video made for Spectrum's Site and Sound initiative at Brighton's Dome Theatre. The players carried the viewer on a physical and sonic exploration using the varying natural acoustics of the venues entrance hall and Corn Exchange to amazing effect\, resulting in an absorbing one shot video. Leroy's journey concept was taken further in their work commissioned by Kemptown Carnival. A new dimension and heightened sense of connection was created by combining improvised dance and music\, whilst working with acclaimed choreographer\nVictoria Fox.\nSet to release their first studio album\, mixed by Alex Banks\, with Cheeba Cheeba records this September Barnacles are currently planning a tour in support of this. Along with writing new material for the band to perform\, Leroy is also putting together a fully immersive 360º live show. The show will see the band perform and improvise with dancers and visuals building on concepts already explored in the bands Power up video.\nIt's an exciting time for the UK Jazz scene at present and we look forward to seeing and hearing what Barnacles add to it both on and off the stage.\nInterview with Leroy Horn \n\n[embed]https://youtu.be/vw4q6KM_Iq4[/embed]\n\n[embed]https://youtu.be/z8ixdrrgeWA[/embed]
