SUMMARY:Matt Jacobson\, Percy Pursglove\, Chris Mapp & Alicia Gardener-Trejo + Fofoulah (double bill)
DESCRIPTION:After Slovenia\, Poland\, Finland and Ireland we are bringing Jazz Connective to the United Kingdom where the delegation of promoters\, producers\, musicians and professionals will meet again to address the new challenges arising within their practices.\nThe English Session will be held in Birmingham (8th - 10th March) and London (11th and 12th March) supervised by our partners Performance Birmingham Limited / Town Hall & Symphony Hall and Vortex Jazz club.\nMATT JACOBSON\, PERCY PURSGLOVE\, CHRIS MAPP & ALICIA GARDENER-TREJO (IE / UK)\nMusician-in-residence\, drummer Matt Jacobson\, collaborates with three musicians from Birmingham who have together been preparing through the week.\n\n\n\nFOFOULAH (GM / UK)\n\nThe London based afro-dub ensemble Fofoulah\, have followed-up their trailblazing debut album (“Fofoulah”/Glitterbeat 2014) with an even more shapeshifting and adventurous recording. Slippery sabar beats\, dystopian electronics and echoing\, shamanic chants ratchet up both the dub quotient and the dramatic tension.  Creating a soundworld that is both earthy and urban\, futurist and rooted - the new album Daega Rek is brought into sharp focus by the rhythms and vocals of Gambian sabar drummer Kaw Secka and the vivid production of keyboardist/saxophonist Tom Challenger. From Senegal\, Batch Gueye brings vocals\, drumming and dance to the live show alongside Robert Plant drummer Dave Smith\, Johnny Brierley on Bass\, Tom Challenger on Synths\, Saxophone and Phil Stevenson on Guitar and Kaw Secka’s high energy talking drum playing.\n\n \n\n[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ysFoJTr6Co[/embed]\n\n \n\nJazz Connective project is a series of conferences\, workshops and music showcases across Europe to consider issues related to artists’ mobility\, and various issues related to smaller venues\, with regular programmes. SUMMARY:KOUMA (late night)
DESCRIPTION:Like Schrödinger's cat or Penrose's staircase\, Kouma is a paradox. A sound that is both dry and oozing\, metallic and hammering\, that springs like a geyser\, a mutant power-trio that seems to have come straight from the bowels of the earth. On drums\, abrasive and bumpy\, Léo Dumont mistreats the rhythm and jostles the labyrinthine riffs produced by Damien Cluzel's baritone guitar\, the baritone sax and Romain Dugelay's lo-fi synths. Three versatile musicians who commit themselves body and soul to the borders of the marked out genres.\n\n \n\nA hundred leagues away from the established canons of jazz\, although quite foreign to the spheres of independent rock\, Kouma likes nothing less than to walk through different scenes\, those where labels are shredded\, where the underground can come out into the open. So yes\, Kouma's a bit like a rebellion from the underground\, a kind of untamed psycho-trash-rock. A gruff bear's head grafted onto a mischievous pony's body. A mathematical sound to be heard while shouting out loud. \n\nBrazilian Blowout by Kouma\n\n\n\n
