DESCRIPTION:After so long where we remain in a state where jazz (and other musics) are still in limbo\, we have to think how we might be able to earn money in this music both now and also in the longer term. A subject that we can return to all the time.\n\nWe are moving on from the original situation where the only jazz was in recordings and the only chance to hear new music was live streamed and we were reliant on goodwill donations. How do we continue with the streamed concerts? How do we value them and generate income for musicians and venues?\n\nMeanwhile\, in the UK\, we are now allowed some concerts outdoors and outside\, concerts with very limited numbers in the audience are presently allowed.\n\nPianist Sam Leak has been putting a lot of work into analysing this and one should look at his article https://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/Home/News/2020/Jul/The-Great-(Livestreamed)-Gig-in-the-Sky-Sam-Leak\n\nBut we have the chance of getting some money from the government as part of their special package for the arts and culture\, though we have still to find out the details.\n\nRecord labels are sitting with large stocks of CDs which are difficult to sell.\n\nSo where do we go from here?
