SUMMARY:Vortex discussion 65 - Creativity through collaboration
DESCRIPTION:Collaboration is crucial for evolution of the music and its momentum.  Have the moves to localism and remote work been positive or will we just revert? Personal contact may be harder\, as we also have to be environmentally aware.  Today’s discussion\, open to all via Zoom\, raises this vital issue.\n\nHosted by Vortex director Oliver Weindling\, these informal discussion over the past year\, have ranged far and wide!\n\n—————————————\n\nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/83907930101?pwd=azluZk55eCtMNUJoYXVYUHBYRTgrUT09\n\nMeeting ID: 839 0793 0101\nPasscode: 130167

SUMMARY:Taupe (1st show)
DESCRIPTION:Line-up:\nJamie Stockbridge - alto sax\n\nMike Parr-Burman - guitar\n\nAdam Stapleford - drums\n\n \nAbout\nA decade of friendship has conjured a spooky telekinesis that anchors the band\, even when their improvisations teeter on the edge of total collapse. The three-piece - Jamie Stockbridge (alto sax)\, Mike Parr-Burman (guitar) and Adam Stapleford (drums) - are an explosive live band\, veering from taut metronomic precision into intentionally turbulent\, unchartered territory. A DIY ethos feeds their wonky compositions\, colliding sour scatter-skronk with sludgy\, doom-inspired riffs.\n\nAnarchic\, joyful debut album Fill Up Your Lungs and Bellow (2017) was best described by All About Jazz as “a chain of chemical reactions”\, and their 2019 EP Get The Keys is a wild joyride through the night their car was almost stolen - with their instruments\, Mike and Adam still inside it. Not Blue Light (out April 7th 2020) is their boldest record yet. Picking up the story from where the EP left off\, it rattles from shit-your-pants fear to adrenaline\, relief and total bafflement. It’s no surprise that their exhilarating sense of discovery has won them support from the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Freak Zone and BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction and Freeness. Fizzing with ideas\, Taupe are a non-jazz band that prizes surprise over any specific sound.\n\n \nINSTRUCTIONS FOR AUDIENCE MEMBERS – PLEASE READ\nWelcome to the Vortex. Although the government is relaxing its Covid restrictions on July 19th 2021 the Vortex will continue to operate measures to protect users of the premises.\nPlease note the following:\n\n\n \tPlease buy tickets in advance as there will be no door sales.\n \tWe ask you not to attend gigs if you have or think you may have any Covid-19 symptoms. If you can’t make a gig because you have to self-isolate then just get in touch by filling out this form and we’ll give you a voucher for another gig.\n \tWe will ask you on entry to sign in for NHS Test and Trace either using the NHS Covid app or manually\n \tThere will be no standing at gigs. Everyone who books a ticket will be allocated a seat\, but we cannot guarantee that you will have a table.\n \tOrders for drinks and snacks will be taken and paid for using the Butlr app which you can download on arrival. (If you do not have a smartphone then your order will be taken at the table and you can make a contactless payment. We do not accept cash.)\n \tWe ask that everyone wears a mask when moving around inside the building.\n \tAutomatic hand sanitiser stations are provided at various places within the building and we encourage regular use of hand sanitiser.\n \tFull details of the measures that we are taking to prevent transmission of Covid are set out in our risk assessment and management plan which can be found on our website.\n
