DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM\n \nLine-up:\nTom Smith -  Saxophone\n\nJoe Lee - Electric Bass\n\nJay Davis - Drums\n\n \nAbout\n\n\n\nTom joins forces with a heavyweight rhythm section Joe Lee (electric bass) and Jay Davis (drums) to perform Steve Swallow's hard swinging suite of trio music from his 2003 live album 'Damaged in Transit' for a unique one-off concert. While being intensely swinging\, the music is remarkably melodic and at parts eclectic and gives the trio a real chance to spread out and explore may different harmonic and rhythmic possibilities together. It also happens to be one of Tom's favourite albums. They'll be augmenting the album with songs from Pat Metheny\, Chris Potter\, Jaco Pastorious and more.\n\nTom Smith is an award winning saxophonist\, bass clarinettist and composer from London. He was twice finalist of the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year programme in 2014 and 2016\, and he has already released to albums to critical acclaim – his debut album ‘Gecko’ in 2020 (produced by Tim Garland) and his second album with Czech pianist Daniel Bulatkin ‘Drifter Days’.\n\nTom runs a number of his own bands including his trio Gecko\, his Big Band and Queertet\, a band celebrating the works of LGBTQI+ musicians\, which sold out two headline shows at Ronnie Scott’s for London Pride 2018 with celebrated comedian Julian Clary and LGBT icons Ian Shaw and Sharon D. Clarke. With Daniel Bulatkin\, Tom has also extensively toured the Czech Republic performing the music from ‘Drifter Days’.\n\nTom has performed with many of the leading bands in the UK\, including the Gareth Lockrane Big Band\, Jim Mullen’s Volunteers\, Resolution 88\, the Jonny Mansfield Elftet\, the Ronnie Scott’s Big Band\, the BBC Concert Orchestra and the Patchwork Jazz Orchestra.\n\n
