DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM\n \nLine-up:\nTori Freestone - Saxophones\, Flute\, Violin\, Vocals\n\nAlcyona Mick - Piano\n\nDave Manington - Double bass\n\nTim Giles  - Drum kit\n\n \nAbout\n“Freestone has caused a stir far beyond the UK... an impressive original and formidable trio'' Leibnitz Jazz Festival\, Austria review\n\n'The no-hiding-place exposure of an improvising sax/piano duo is a tough call but the British pairing of pianist Alcyona Mick and tenor saxophonist Tori Freestone make light of it’ The Guardian\, 'Jazz Album of the Month' **** review\n\n\nTori Freestone has been creating a stir in the UK and abroad in recent years winning prestigious awards including the Ivor Novello for jazz composition and receiving rave reviews including Guardian Jazz album of the month for her 'El Mar de Nubes' 2019 trio release.\n\nHer unique writing style is not only steeped in the jazz tradition but reflects her roots in folk music and is also influenced by Latin and Brazilian music spending much of her youth and adult life in the Canary Islands where she now does much of her composing.  Tori plays these compositions with the melodic yet robust approach that she has become so well know for.\n\nThe trio\, with long time colleagues Tim Giles and Dave Manington\, themselves much in demand on the London jazz scene\, has an incredible rapport and interaction that gives audiences a buzz and sense of excitement in a live setting.\n\nThe spontaneous and organic approach heard in the duo with Alcyona Mick grew after working together with numerous large ensembles such as the London Jazz Orchestra\, Ingrid/Christine Jensen big band\, Nikki Iles Jazz Orchestra and Yazz Ahmed's Polyhymnia. They've developed their unique approach hugely since their debut release in 2017\, composing and collaborating during lockdown for a new album\, resulting in an Ivor Novello Award following a premiere at the Albert Hall as part of the 2021 London Jazz Festival. The music from Tori's recent trio release and the fresh compositions composed during the lockdown for the upcoming co led duo release will be featured for this Vortex double bill\, bringing the level of interaction from these musicians to new heights.\n\n \n\n[embed]https://youtu.be/6UT_z3uQXeQ[/embed]
