DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM\n \nLine-up:\nMatthew Sulzmann - Soprano saxophone\n\nStan Sulzmann - Tenor saxophone\n\nWill Barry - Piano\n\nWill Sach - Double bass\n\nDave Storey - Drum kit\n \nAbout\nThe first joint outing of British saxophonists Matthew and Stan Sulzmann\, this new group was formed in 2022 to celebrate their musical bond. With a focus on creativity and virtuosic improvisation\, the group explores some of the pair’s favourite music spanning original compositions and selections from the tradition.\n\nAlthough they have been playing together for over 10 years (more recently including a 2018 Arts Council funded tour of Stan’s big band project “Neon Orchestra”\, followed by a remote recording project)\, this is the first time the pair have fronted a smaller group and allowed their unique connection to shine. The duelling saxophones are supported by a choice rhythm section comprising award-winning pianist Will Barry\, Will Sach\, and Dave Storey.\n\nMatthew Sulzmann is a London based soprano/alto saxophonist and graduate of the Royal Academy of Music. In addition to leading his own band\, he has worked with groups including Dom Ingham Sextet\, London Jazz Orchestra\, and Neon Orchestra\, and performed across most of London’s notable jazz venues\, as well as appearing in both the London and Scarborough Jazz Festivals.\n\nA brilliant saxophonist with an instantly recognisable sound\, Stan Sulzmann’s CV reads like a who’s who of jazz\, including work with the likes of Michael Brecker\, Kenny Wheeler\, John Taylor\, Mike Gibbs\, Marc Copland\, the New York Composers Orchestra and Gil Evans.
