SUMMARY:Whirlpool Series / November Session / Curated by Jakub Klimiuk
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM - 2 set(s) of music\n \nAbout\n \nA monthly series of gigs of best new jazz coming out of London.\n\nFor the latest in our new monthly series of up-and-coming musicians of the scene here in London\, we have a night programmed by guitarist Jakub Klimiuk. New music\, new line-ups. What could be more exciting. Take the plunge and come along!\nThis month we’ll be having music and collaborations in various lineups from a great group of It builds on the scene that we have here. It’s a night with the finger on the pulse of what’s happening. Come and experience today the jazz of tomorrow.\nThe six curators of the series\, as it develops are: Marta Gornicka (vocals)\, Jakub Klimiuk (guitar)\, Alex Lockheart (guitar)\, Kasper Rietkerk (saxophone)\, Rebecka Edlund (vocals)\, Caius Williams (bass)\, all of whom have just graduated from the three main colleges in London.\nThe Whirlpool series itself takes its name from the tune (and album) by John Taylor\, one of the leading jazz pianists this country has produced. It builds on a great legacy.\n“Jaw dropping” (Sebastian Scotney\, Londonjazznews.com)\nMore information on the project from the review in Londonjazznews.com:\n“The hope for ‘Whirlpool’ is that it might attract either philanthropic funding or enter into partnership. The contrast with this scheme and similar\, well-funded ventures in France or Germany is stark. And yet the preliminary work to get it off the ground has involved some very good joined-up thinking by the people who run the courses at the conservatoires. However\, to really prosper it probably needs an organisation\, like Aldeburgh Music say\, or a venue or festival (somewhere\, anywhere!) to get involved. That said\, of one thing in particular there can be no doubt: the jaw-dropping quality of these musicians means that ‘Whirlpool’ certainly deserves to succeed.”
