SUMMARY:[POSTPONED] TALKING THE GROOVE – BOOK LAUNCH and PERFORMANCE
DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, due to the ASLEF drivers strike scheduled on Monday 8th April\, some of the performers are unable to travel to London for this book launch. The event has now been postponed and we hope to announce a new date shortly. Tickets purchased will remain valid for the new date.\n \nLine-up:\nChris Searle – Author\n\nJohn Edwards – Bass\n\nMark Sanders – Drums\n\nTrevor Watts – Saxophones\n\nVeryan Weston – Piano\n\n \nAbout\nJazz In Britain is pleased to announce the launch of its latest publication\, ‘Talking the Groove – jazz words from the Morning Star’\, a compendium of Chris Searle’s reviews and interviews from the last few years.  The book features interviews\, album and concert reviews relating to over 150 international artists\, many of whom appear in multiple articles.\n\nAnd\, like the last few JiB books\, there’s a companion double CD of previously unreleased music relevant to the book including cuts from John Stevens\, Chris McGregor\, Trevor Watts and more; some from our archives and some specially donated by musicians featured in the book.  When we revealed the line-up to Chris\, his reaction was “To have such a powerful array of talent on one double CD.  It's a listener's dream that also brings back another world that we all knew and loved.”\n\nBut what about the book itself?  ‘Talking the Groove’ is Chris’ third book on jazz\, following ‘Forward Groove’ (2008) and ‘Red Groove’ (2013).  Throughout its pages he mixes reviews with dozens of interviews with jazz veterans\, established virtuosi and younger musicians - who Art Blakey called “new stars of the jazz firmament.”  He shows how through more than a century of its existence\, jazz has grown hugely in its internationalism and inclusiveness\, always remaining a campaigning and evolving music with its aims rooted in a quest for freedom\, popular justice and astonishing\, boundary-breaking artistry.\n\nAnd if that wasn’t enough\, the evening will feature a performance by a quartet of musicians\, all of whom feature regularly throughout the book. They are John Edwards on bass\, Mark Sanders\, drums\, Trevor Watts\, saxophones and Veryan Weston on piano.\n\nChris will be talking about the book and his work too\, so be prepared for an evening of exciting conversation and improvisation.
