SUMMARY:Matt Seddon Sinfonietta & Cameron Scott Jazz Orchestra feat. Steve Williamson
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM - 2 set(s) of music\nThis double bill is presented in partnership with Trinity Laban\n \nAbout\nMatt Seddon is a vibrant young trombonist\, composer and arranger from Derby who’s bringing the sounds of his musically eclectic upbringing to the London jazz scene. Having received the 2022/23 Trinity College London Silver Medal award\, Matt has recently enjoyed playing with the likes of the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra\, and recording and performing with Hans Koller’s Bird Migration Big Band. Citing a wide range of influences from Pat Metheny and Louis Armstrong to Paul Simon and Dimitri Shostakovich\, Matt fuses jazz with his love of gospel\, folk\, and Western classical music for a lyrical\, powerful sound.\n\n\nWith this new ensemble\, Matt continues the extensive tradition of collaboration between jazz and classical musicians in the form of a jazz chamber orchestra. Expect everything from arrangements of songs and standards to sprawling original compositions\, all injected with Matt’s love of storytelling\, and the power and intimacy that orchestral stylings can provide.\n\nCameron is a London-based jazz trombonist\, euphoniumist\, composer and arranger. In January 2024 he won the Trinity Laban Gold Medal showcase at King's Place\, having performed two original compositions with his 18-piece jazz orchestra. His work on the scene recently has included playing trombone in Laura Jurd's Stepping Back\, Jumping In project as part of the Burghausen jazz festival\, and playing in Tom Challenger’s Brass Mask ensemble on euphonium alongside Theon Cross. He has curated various projects alongside his jazz orchestra over the last couple years\, including his group dedicated to the music of Bheki Mseleku which featured Gareth Lockrane at World Heartbeat in 2023\, and his quintet with unusual frontline euphonium and bari sax which played at Byron Wallen’s Coronet Theatre jazz festival in 2022. Some of his highlights from being a student at Trinity include having performed as a guest soloist alongside Tony Kofi at World Heartbeat with the Trinity Laban Jazz Orchestra.\n\nCameron’s jazz orchestra plays his own compositions and his arrangements of Charles Mingus compositions\, featuring excitingly unique soundworlds influenced by everything from Thad Jones and Duke Ellington to Geri Allen and Tomasz Stanko\, alongside contemporary classical composers such as Bartok\, Stravinsky and Shostakovich. On this occasion the legendary Steve Williamson will be featured as guest soloist on tenor sax\, playing over Cameron's old and newly-written compositions which explore everything from Bulgarian rhythmic cycles to rock grooves and glorious full-band chorales.\n \n\n[embed]https://youtu.be/9hBM6OnCuCM?si=eufIyOvQGyS4tWWE[/embed]
