DESCRIPTION:Local & Live in Hackney proudly present London-based band Awalé Jant. A blend of Afro-Latin\, funk and soul with a unique Senegalese twist. Exuberant Sabar percussion and Afro-Latin drums combine with intricate guitar patterns and horn lines with catchy bass riffs. Senegalese singer and songwriter Biram Seck and the compositions of French guitarist Thibaut Remy all create a spinning kaleidoscope of sounds. Awalé is on a mission to experience happiness together in these fractured times.\n\nAfter a short hiatus\, we are happy to resume our series of events at the Vortex Downstairs organised by Local & Live in Hackney\, a small group of local musicians and artists. Expect adventurous ideas & musical risk from two of UK jazz’s most unique musicians.\n\nBinker Golding is considered to be at the forefront of the contemporary London jazz scene. His albums with Binker & Moses have received wide critical acclaim & picked up a number of awards including a MOBO\, three Jazz FM awards & a Parliamentary Jazz award. He is primarily known for his solo work under his own name.\n\nElliot Galvin is known for his superb piano playing\, mastery of extended technique on the instrument & his fearless approach\, both as an improvisor & composer. In 2017 he was nominated for a Mercury music prize for his band Dinosaur & in 2014 won the European young jazz artist of the year award in Germany.
