The album launch at Pizza Express Live Soho in May sold out over two months in advance\, see below for a montage from that gig.\n\n"An exhilaratingly original sound\, at once intimate and expansive” ★★★★ Editor’s Choice in JAZZWISE\n\nThe ‘Penelope’ album was recorded as a surprise for Billy’s mother Penny during her struggle with pancreatic cancer in summer 2023. Released in her memory at the end of January 2024\, all proceeds go to World Child Cancer to help children in developing countries beat cancer\, raising over £3000 by release day. Billy formed the 12-piece chamber-jazz ensemble Grande Família for the ‘Penelope’ album\, including his girlfriend Teresa Macedo Ferreira on viola and extended family members Jonas Mbanu on bass and Dijan Mbanu on flute alongside some of Billy’s favourite musicians. Their inventive contemporary jazz spans a wide emotional spectrum\, with narrative and melody at its heart.\n\n“Melodic and distinctive…an album of inventive and contemporary chamber-jazz” ★★★★ All About Jazz\n\n“The album is a triumph…with his Grande Família project\, Marrows has created a spectacular new ensemble” Jazz Views\n\n“I could not recommend Billy Marrows’ incredible album ‘Penelope’ any higher. It’s among the most beautiful\, rich\, textured and emotive music I’ve heard in years” Jamie Doe\, aka The Magic Lantern\n\n \n\n[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFp4sODRGAI[/embed]

SUMMARY:VORTEX LATES: DALSTON SONG CLUB W/ ELANOR MOSS
DESCRIPTION:Doors 10 PM\, Music 10:30 PM\n \nABOUT\n\n\n\nOur monthly late night series brings songwriters together to perform in the round\, hosted by Matthew Herd. This month features one of the country's most acclaimed and original voices\, Elanor Moss.\n\nElanor Moss\n\nElanor Moss is a London songwriter drawing inspiration from 70s folkies and short story writers. Her writing focuses on the edges of darkness and laughter\, beauty and ugliness\, violence and tenderness\, as she applies a tender lens to themes of human fallibility.\n\n\nMoss has released two acclaimed EPs: the dark autobiographical debut ‘Citrus’ and its lighter follow up ‘Cosmic’\, across which she experimented with identity and voice through genre and tone.\n\nFollowing the release of ‘Cosmic’ she contributed to the Chrysalis Records Nick Drake compilation album ‘The Endless Coloured Ways’ featuring on a cover of ‘Which Will’ with Christian Lee Hutson.\n\nMoss's singles have seen extensive BBC6 Music support\, including a Marc Riley live session. She has performed at Green Man\, Pitchfork London and End of the Road\, and shared stages on tours with Christian Lee Hutson\, CMAT\, Indigo Sparke\, Cassandra Jenkins\, and Benjamin Francis Leftwich.\n\n2023 saw a sold out London headline show at St Pancras Old Church and closed with a tour opening for Poet Laureate Simon Armitage’s band LYR and with her single ’Catholic’ making it into Time Out’s “Best of 2023.”\n\n\nShe recorded her debut album earlier this year.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n[embed]https://youtu.be/x1bHb5XRuYg?si=52w9di_txrVpPf-R[/embed]\n\n\n
