SUMMARY:Pope/Garner/Byrne/Roth
DESCRIPTION:Doors 6:45 PM\, Music 7:30 PM - 1 set(s) of music\n \nLine-up:\nJohn Pope - Double Bass\n\nJohn Garner - Violin\n\nDee Byrne - Alto Saxophone\n\nSimon Roth - Drums\n\n \nAbout\nQuicksilver improvisation from a quartet of dynamic voices from across the UK creative music spectrum. John Pope is a double bassist and improviser whose musical flexibility and adventurous playing has grounded collaborations with such noteworthy figures as Joe McPhee\, Evan Parker\, Ingrid Laubrock and more. A long-standing duo with creative virtuoso violinist and shakuhachi maestro John Garner\, himself a mercurial presence in spontaneous music\, formed the seed or this new quartet\, both players each inviting another musician they thought would complement or challenge their existing approach. The questing\, breathtaking alto saxophone of Dee Byrne makes the unusual pairing of violin and horn sound utterly natural\, revealing tonal similarities and throwing curveballs back and forth across the field of sound. Meanwhile master drummer\, improviser and theatre-maker Simon Roth brings a restless\, ironic and utterly embodied sense of play to proceedings\, underpinned with a righteous and rigorous sense of groove\, space and form. The sound of four restlessly curious and highly-articulate improvisers setting out to discover new territory\, shake the tree and play to find out what happens next.\n\n
