SUMMARY:LVDF - EP Release Show
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM - 2 set(s) of music\n \nLine-up:\nAlex Hitchcock - Saxophone\n\nMaria Chiara Argiró - Piano\n\nMichelangelo Scandroglio - Double Bass\n\nMyele Manzanza - Drums\n\n \nAbout\nLVDF is the new Italy / UK / New Zealand cross cultural collaboration between four artists at the forefront of their respective boundary-pushing jazz scenes\, and are excited to celebrate the launch of their debut EP at the Vortex Jazz Club!\n\nDescribed as “virtuosos” (The Guardian)\, “electric” (Okayplayer)\, and “absolutely crazy good” (Gilles Peterson)\, all members are prolific musicians\, leaders\, and solo artists in their own right. LVDF provides a platform for this extraordinary group to develop new compositions and craft a unified band voice\, creating music that is truly\ngreater than the sum of its parts.\n\nGrounded in contemporary grooves and production aesthetics\, LVDF pushes boundaries through fearless improvisation and cohesive interplay among its members. Originally an acronym for La Via Del Ferro—Italian for “The Iron Way”—LVDF references the ancient trade routes that connected the Italian iron industry to Europe and beyond. The project was born out of a collaborative workshop in the coastal Tuscan town of Follonica. This metaphor of a road connecting a local industry to the wider world resonates deeply with the band’s members. Hailing from Italy\, New Zealand\, and the UK but residing in Paris\, London\, and New York\, their music became a road that united them.\n\nSince their formation\, LVDF has played at renowned festivals\, including the London Jazz Festival\, Cambridge Jazz Festival\, Bergamo Jazz Festival and Grey Cat Jazz Festival\, alongside successful club tours in Italy and a sold-out performance at London’s legendary Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club.\n\n \n\nhttps://youtu.be/DNMqylU7ZkE?si=kdGXHfDWINKoXWhY\n\n \n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58TszGLzGaQ

SUMMARY:Vortex Lates: Bone Folder + Welkin
DESCRIPTION:Doors 10:30 PM\, Music 11:00 PM - 1 set(s) of music\n \nAbout\n“Vortex Lates” is a new series of events taking place in our downstairs bar from 10:30-12am every Friday or Saturday. A new late-night jazz hang for Dalston where you can grab a drink and listen to some of the best improvised musicians from around the city. For only £6\, check out exciting music from a revolving line-up of innovative performers digging into standards and new music alongside DJs spinning vinyl until the early hours. A relaxed atmosphere and an opportunity to be part of the extended Vortex community.\n\n \n\nFollowing their packed debut in May\, Bone Folder return to the Vortex\, this time presenting a set from Cambridge heavy improv trio Welkin.\n\nWelkin\n\nWelkin play with elemental forces. Named for the vault of heaven\, the group encompasses a deeply textured and constantly evolving sound.  Between them\, Dominic Lash and N.O. Moore (guitars) and Dave Fowler (drums) have collaborated with the likes of Tony Conrad\, Eddie Prévost\, and Adam Bohman. \n\nA trio of improvisers\, Welkin utilise the language of sonic heaviness to enlighten the sky\, drawing on a tradition that runs from Blue Cheer to Fushitshusha to SUMAC and beyond.\n\n~~\n\nBone Folder\n\nOccupying a space between drone\, ambient and noise music\, London duo Bone Folder walk the intersections of sustained\, textured sounds. Drawing from a wealth of cultural and sonic context\, their freely improvised\, dynamic approach is detail-oriented and at times insidiously quiet.\n\nGiving way by turns to lyrical melodic work or full-bore noise\, the music taps directly into the resonant frequencies of the spaces it fills. Bassist J Kamboh’s raw\, dextrous instincts and guitarist Mat Martin’s visual\, textural sensibility are brought to bear on carefully controlled\, throbbing planes of sound that saturate over time and fizz at their edges. \n\nbonefolderduo.com\n\nIG: @bonefolderduo
