He has been described by UK Jazz News as "hugely talented"\, by jazz pianist Chris Ingham as "a once-in-a-generation talent”\, and by Director of the Watford Jazz Junction\, Chris Newstead\, as “extraordinary… a future star of European jazz”. Lyons is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music and is working with some of the most innovative musicians on the scene. He leads an outstanding quartet\, including saxophonist George Johnson (BBC Young Jazz Musician 2024 finalist) drummer Ananda Brandão (credits include Ant Law\, Alex Hitchcock\, Emma Rawicz) and bassist Zaki Osahn (venues played at include Ronnie Scott’s\, Royal Festival Hall\, Cadogan Hall).\nLyons has played as part of the London-based concert series Jazz in the Round. He has been featured at Ronnie Scott’s in the show ‘Future Movers’\, which showcases some of the UK’s finest young jazz musicians\, and he has played twice at the Watford Jazz Junction\, supporting Emma Rawicz and Mark Kavuma.\n\nLyons has already established himself as a composer and improviser and has developed a distinctive voice in this idiom. His influences are diverse; in addition to the jazz tradition\, he draws from Latin American styles\, English folk music\, and hymnal music.\n\n[embed][/embed]

DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM - 2 set(s) of music\n \nLine-up:\nPete Wareham — saxophones\,flute\, vocals\, electronics\nRuth Goller — bass\, vocals\, synth\nTom Herbert — bass six\, bass\, synth\nEmre Ramazanoglu — drums\, electronics\nAbout\nFirst ever live performance of Pete Wareham's new band.\n\nPete Wareham started out as an award-winning jazz saxophonist but soon broke new ground\, gaining critical acclaim for his innovative punk rock approach\, winning ‘Best Band’ in 2005’s BBC Jazz Awards with his first band Acoustic Ladyland.\n\nIn 2010 Wareham disbanded Acoustic Ladyland after five well-received and influential albums to experiment with new directions. Melt Yourself Down was the result\, with the self-named first album released in 2013 incorporating African rhythms\, duelling saxophones and a bold new sound.\n\nIn 2019 Wareham signed with Melt Yourself Down to Decca Records and the band’s third album ‘100 YES%’ produced by Wareham\, Youth and Ben Hillier was released in 2020.\n\nAn original member of Seb Rochford’s twice Mercury-nominated Polar Bear\, he has been involved with many other high-profile projects – either as a band member or session musician – and his playing collaborations with Nadine Shah and Sons Of Kemet won him another Mercury nomination in 2018.\n\nWareham has for several years also focused on production and songwriting. In 2015 he received the Paul Hamlyn Composer’s Award and since then has developed his production work further in his home studio while working on collaborative songwriting and production work with other artists.
