SUMMARY:Iain Ballamy Quartet - Riversphere
DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM - 2 sets of music\n \nLine-up:\nIain Ballamy - Saxophone\nRob Luft - Guitar\nCorrie Dick - Drum kit\nTim Harries - Bass guitar\n\n \nAbout:\nThe complex interconnectedness of rivers and the surrounding environment is defined as Riversphere. This concept shares similarities to the interconnectivity between musical genres\, the players\, the listener and the performance itself. The collective experience is achieved through a shared flow state.\n\nOur aspiration with ‘Riversphere’ is to blur the boundaries between improvised and written composition. If the music of this group is the river\, the musicians are its tributaries and the confluence\, where they meet\, becomes the flow state.\n\nAs rivers and tributaries are infinitely mutable\, so are the possibilities for different musical incarnations of Riversphere.\n\nThe quartet will be promoting their recent album release on the Babel Label\, which features a flexible ensemble of between two and six musicians. The creation of this collection of pieces was a ruminative process spanning five years. In attempting to merge and blur the seemingly opposing musical forms of composition & improvisation\, the result of this project is to transcend the distinction between the two\, to embrace both written & extemporised music\, spontaneity & tradition\, the past & the present\, and everything in-between.\n\nAs one turns over the word ‘Riversphere’ phonetically\, like a mantra\, it begins to sound like ‘reverse fear’\, a sentiment which also relates to the trust and courage involved when making music with and performing music to others!\n\n \n\n[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah-YWH-AglA[/embed]

SUMMARY:Vortex Lates: Peter Ehwald Trio
DESCRIPTION:Doors 10:00 PM\, Music 10:30 PM - 1 set of music\n \nLine-up:\nPeter Ehwald - Saxophone\nAndrea Di Biase - Double bass\nJon Scott - Drum kit\n\n \nAbout:\nPeter Ehwald Trio - an improvisational pull in which anything is possible thanks to his irrepressible joy of playing — jazz tradition\, heartbreaking ballads and his sky-high search for freedom.\n\nBerlin-based Saxophonist Peter Ehwald has long been part of the vivid jazz scene of his hometown and yet his work with musicians such as Tom Rainey\, Robert Landfermann and Laura Robles radiates beyond the borders of the City. Peter has a longstanding collaboration with drummer Jon Scott and Bassist Andrea Di Biase.\n\nJon currently tours the world with Mercury-nominated GoGo Penguin and Ethio-Jazz legend Mulatu Astatke. He performed with Shabaka Hutchings' renowned Sons of Kemet. Andrea was part of the last trio of the legendary trumpet player and composer Kenny Wheeler and leads his own Oltremare Quartet. Jon and Andrea make up a powerful rhythm section that recorded many albums together.\n\nPeter's trio concerts develop an improvisational pull in which anything is possible thanks to his irrepressible joy of playing — jazz tradition\, heartbreaking ballads and his sky-high search for freedom.\n\n[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXsQqEXalhk[/embed]
