DESCRIPTION:Doors 6:45 PM\, Music 7:15 PM - 1 set of music\n \nLine-up:\nReuben Goldmark - Piano\nRoger Kintopf - Double bass\nAndrew Lisle - Drum kit\nAbout:\nReuben Goldmark and Andrew Lisle invite Cologne bassist Roger Kintopf for a set of multi-directional free improvisation.\n\nReuben Goldmark\, a London-based pianist and composer\, was a finalist in the esteemed BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition and his compositions were featured on BBC 4 and BBC Radio 3. He was awarded the Dankworth Prize for Jazz Composition in both 2022 and 2023\, making him the first ever back-to-back recipient of the award. As a performer\, he has graced numerous prestigious venues across the UK\, including select appearances at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival\, Snape Maltings as part of the Aldeburgh Festival and Saffron Hall. Reuben is a regular presence at many of London’s top jazz clubs\, including the legendary Ronnie Scott’s and The Vortex.\n\nRoger Kintopf has established himself as an attentive listener and creative designer on the contemporary jazz scene. The Cologne-based double bassist and composer explores musical dialogues between different sonic worlds. His work is characterized by a balance between composition and improvisation. As a sideman\, Kintopf has worked with renowned musicians\, including Johanna Summer\, Kirke Karja\, Felix Hauptmann\, Leif Berger\, Fabian Dudek\, Phillip Dornbusch\, Christian Lillinger\, Kathrin Pechlof\, Kit Downes\, Achim Kaufmann\, Loren Stillman\, Cory Smythe\, and many more.\n\nAndrew Lisle\, born and raised in Northumberland (UK) but now based in London\, is a multi-directional drummer\, and composer. His quick and highly textural playing filled with rhythmic complexity makes him a highly in-demand member of the fertile jazz & improvised music community. In turns both propulsive and abstract\, Lisle has worked with many of the leading voices on the UK and European improvised music scene\, including: Kit Downes\, John Edwards\, Alex Ward\, Camila Nebbia\, Charlotte Keeffe\, Tom Challenger\, Ab Baars\, Rodrigo Amado\, John Dikeman\, Colin Webster\, and many more.\n\nPhoto by Alex Kozobolis

DESCRIPTION:Doors 7:45 PM\, Music 8:30 PM - 2 sets of music\n \nLine-up:\nMark Wastell - 32” Paiste tam tam\, gongs\, cymbals\, bells\, shakers\nBugge Wesseltoft - Piano\n\n \nAbout:\nWorld renowned\, Norwegian piano maestro Bugge Wesseltoft\, makes his Vortex debut in the company of celebrated British improvising percussionist\, Mark Wastell.\n\nSince the early 1990´s Bugge Wesseltoft has made an impressive\, truly post-modern transition from his ECM nordic jazz roots. Playing and recording together with the likes of Jan Garbarek\, Sidsel Endresen\, Terje Rypdal\, Nils Petter Molvaer\, Jon Eberson\, to forming his own innovative New Conception Of Jazz group. Equally at home with solo or group playing\, his most recent formation is a trio with Arild Andersen and Gard Nilssen.\n\nMark Wastell's varied resume reflects his diverse interests\, working with luminary's like Derek Bailey\, John Zorn\, Tony Conrad\, David Sylvian\, Maggie Nicols and Mats Gustaffson. Over the years\, Mark has also developed a close connection to the Norwegian scene which includes projects with Lasse Marhaug\, Arild Andersen\, Jan Bang\, Erik Honoré\, Michael Francis Duch and Ståle Liavik Solberg.\n\nThis year marks the 30th anniversary of record labels run by each of tonights performers.
